If you are having difficulty becoming pregnant, in vitro fertilization, or IVF, may improve your chances of success. This treatment option has high success rates for qualified candidates.

Unfortunately, some patients find the cost of IVF to be prohibitive. At Pacific Fertility Center in Los Angeles, CA, we want our patients to understand that there are affordable, and higher cost, IVF options at our practice.

Here, we discuss the factors that affect the cost of IVF so patients can decide if it is a good option for them.

The Cost of the IVF Cycle

At a minimum, patients will have to cover the cost of the IVF treatment cycle. This includes the cost of ultrasounds, blood tests, egg retrieval, lab fees, embryo transfer, cryopreservation of viable embryos, and one year of embryo storage fees.

We want to make the cost of IVF treatment as affordable as possible for all of our patients, so we offer The Access Plan, a discount program based on income. All patients may submit an application to receive a discount on qualifying services. We offer three discount levels: 15, 25, and 50 percent off.

The Cost of Fertility Medications

The cost of fertility medications is not included in the cost of the IVF cycle. Depending on the amount of medication required, this can increase the cost of treatment.

At Pacific Fertility Center in Los Angeles, we offer three types of IVF, all of which require different amounts of medication.

With our natural IVF, services, patients do not use any fertility medications during IVF treatment. This makes natural IVF the most affordable option. However, it is not right for all patients.

Mini IVF requires some use of fertility medications. This is the more moderately priced option.

Finally, traditional IVF uses higher amounts of medication to encourage the production of more eggs and give you the best chance of getting pregnant. However, the cost of medications is higher for patients that undergo traditional IVF.

Additional Services

Patients that undergo IVF often choose additional fertility services as well. Each of these services is associated with an additional cost:

  • Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI): In this treatment, a single sperm is injected into the egg. This may be an ideal option in cases of male factor infertility.
  • Egg donor: The use of an egg donor can add a substantial cost to your IVF treatment process.
  • Surrogacy: Patients that are unable to carry a baby to term and those with pregnancy-related health problems may elect to use a surrogate.
  • Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD): This test can screen embryos for genetic diseases and disorders.
  • Pre-implantation genetic screening (PGS): In this test, we can check the overall number of chromosomes to make sure they are at a normal and healthy number. These tests can also be used to determine the gender of the embryos.
