Stimulate Successful Ovulation with Fertility Drugs

The doctors at Pacific Fertility Center in Glendale and Los Angeles, CA, can diagnose female infertility and provide fertility drugs, which are designed to stimulate ovulation and promote healthy conception. Depending upon your needs we can prescribe Clomid®, an oral medication, or Gonadotropin injections. These medications encourage your body to release hormones that aid in ovulation, and can be used in conjunction with other reproductive treatments like in vitro fertilization (IVF). After evaluating your needs, our doctors can help you determine the treatment that is right for you and your family.

Types of Fertility Drugs

There are many successful fertility drugs on the market today, ranging from oral medications to injectable drugs. Oral fertility medications are often used as an adjunct therapy to help encourage ovulation or regulate your cycle. In some cases, hormone injections may be necessary to trigger ovulation. Both are highly successful methods that can help you and your partner conceive.

By enhancing your ovarian environment and regulating your cycles, fertility drugs maximize your chances of conceiving.

Ovulation Induction Agents

While you may produce healthy and viable eggs, they may be released irregularly, limiting your chances of conceiving. By enhancing your ovarian environment and regulating your cycle, fertility drugs maximize your chances of conception. Some of the most common ovulation induction agents include:

Clomiphene Citrate:
Commonly called Clomid or Serophene, this medication can induce ovulation or stimulate extra follicles in women that naturally ovulate. Often used in conjunction with assisted reproductive methods or artificial insemination, clomiphene citrate has been successfully used for over 40 years. Approximately 60 to 80 percent of women who take it will ovulate, and about half of them will be able to conceive. If pregnancy does occur, it typically happens in three to six cycles.

Commonly prescribed if clomiphene citrate is unsuccessful, gonadotropin injections can increase levels of certain hormones and induce ovulation. If you are undergoing insemination or in vitro fertilization (IVF), gonadotropins can boost your production of eggs for the procedure. A gonadotropin injection is administered into the muscle or beneath the skin. You will receive routine injections for seven to 10 days, typically beginning during your menstrual cycle. In some cases, we may prescribe oral clomiphene citrate in conjunction. We may also prescribe gonadotropin injections for men to improve their sperm count and quality.

The Importance of Proper Diagnosis

Proper diagnosis is essential for effective infertility treatment. Fertility drugs will not be helpful unless you have viable eggs. These medications are intended to help stimulate ovulation or regulate unpredictable cycles. For this reason, fertility drugs are an excellent treatment option for patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). By assessing your needs, our physicians can create a fully personalized treatment plan, designed to optimize conception and give you the best chance for success.
