IVF success rates at Pacific Fertility Center of Los Angeles

At PFCLA, we're dedicated to treating all patients, regardless of the difficulty of your case. Even with this consideration, our IVF success rates are higher than the nation’s average. And with continual advancements in reproductive technology, our success rates continue to increase year after year.

In fact, PFCLA has a 40% higher success rate per embryo transfer than the average U.S. IVF clinic¹. Please note that this rate is based on available data at the time of publication, and may vary.

Understand your fertility clinic’s IVF success rates

At PFCLA, we pride ourselves on successfully helping patients for whom other fertility paths were ineffective and do not turn away difficult cases to inflate our success rates.

Factors that influence IVF success rates

There are a number of factors that can influence a patient’s chances of success with in vitro fertilization (IVF)

Age

A woman’s age is one of the biggest factors. The highest IVF success rates are seen in women under the age of 35. As a woman’s age increases, her risk of miscarriage increases, and the rate of success with IVF declines.

Your infertility diagnosis

Another influencing factor of an IVF cycle’s success rate is your given infertility diagnosis. Diagnoses vary between male or female factor infertility, and these sources of infertility affect success rates differently. Your doctor can help you determine which treatment may be right for your family.

Patient health and medical history

Certain medical conditions, diseases, and even medications can affect fertility, so it’s important to fully discuss your medical history with your doctor.

The number and type of treatment cycles you undergo

Attempting multiple treatment cycles can contribute to a higher success rate compared to if you pursue just one or two cycles. Additionally choosing to supplement an aspect of your IVF treatment, with donor embryos for instance, may also affect your success rate.

Understanding a clinic's IVF success rates

When viewing a facility’s IVF success rates on the CDC website, understanding the data can help you make an informed decision about the fertility clinic you choose. For instance, since miscarriage is often a risk with IVF, statistics do not show the number of conceptions per cycle, but rather the percentage of how many babies were born per cycle.

Additionally, not all clinics report all cycles, and some turn away candidates with lower chances of success to inflate clinic success rates. At PFCLA, we report 100% of our cycles and do not turn away patients who are experiencing increased complications. Because of this, not all fertility clinic success rates can be compared evenly.

Choosing a fertility clinic

After viewing the online success rates of several facilities in your area, you should contact these clinics to ask additional questions. Some questions you may want to consider asking include:

  • What is the facility’s success rate for patients in your age group and with your particular diagnosis?
  • What is the live birth rate for couples who undergo IVF treatment at the clinic?
  • What is the cost of treatment?
  • What are the success rates for non-donor embryos versus donor embryos?
  • What are the success rates for lesbian and gay couples?

If you have not had success with other fertility treatments or doctors, our specialists may be able to help. Bear in mind that comparing clinics to one another is rarely an ‘apples to apples’ comparison, as clinics and physicians take on different patient cases based on age, risk factors and their offered services. The best thing you can do to understand your personal IVF profile is to consult with a physician.
