Dear Dr. Sahakian and
staff,
Hooray! We are finally pregnant – with twins!! My husband and I had
been trying to have children for 4 years before you made our dream come
true. We want to thank you for everything! We had gone to 2 different
doctors, been on fertility drugs for over a year, and underwent 2
surgeries. We knew that to become parents we had to try IVF or adopt. We
went with a local doctor and were unsuccessful with an IVF attempt, and
I was adamant that I did not want to again go through the pain,
anticipation, and headache of an IVF that did not work. Let alone the
expense of the whole procedure, which is not covered by our insurance.
We started to inquire with a couple adoption agencies, but it seemed
applications, then they were picking only 30 couples out of 300 to go
through the process. Adoption was also drawn out over several years. We
had received a few calls on private adoptions, but they would fall
through at the last minute. We felt that everything was working against
us. Then I saw your ad in our local newspaper for a free seminar on how
to maximize success rates with IVF. I thought that it wouldn’t hurt to
at least attend and see what it was about.
What we learned at the
seminar gave us hope and inspired us to think about trying IVF again.
The seminar provided us with the knowledge if immunology as it relates
to infertility. This was something that we were never tested for the
first time around. At that seminar, Dr. Sahakian talked about some
problems we experienced and possible ways to avoid them. (We also liked
the fact that your facility was so sure of your success rates, you were
willing to offer a refund!) Are we ever thankful we signed up for that
free phone consultation!
The next few months were busy with
obtaining our full medical records and undergoing tests with a local
doctor. We found out that I had antibodies that could prevent a
successful implantation and pregnancy, but was treatable with
medications. Our hope started to rise! Finally an answer on why we
failed before. We started the various medications and the countdown to
California.
We stayed in California for 10 days, with ultrasound,
egg retrieval, and transfer taking up about 5 days. We were able to see
the sights around town and go to the beach in our spare time. We were
devastated to find out later that the embryo transfer didn’t work, but
comforted by the fact that we had 19 more embryos frozen for future
attempts. In my heart I knew that this attempt did not work because of 2
reasons my body was in too much stress from over stimulated ovaries and
it simply was not God’s plan for us at the time.
We waited a few
months and went out to California again, this time for a "frozen cycle".
I had to take most of the same medications, but since we already had
the embryos, my ovaries did not have to be stimulated. We flew out
Friday night had Dr. Sahakian performed the transfer on Saturday, and
flew back home on Sunday. 14 days later, we got the good news that we
were expecting. 3 weeks after that, we were told that there were 2 of
them. So far everything is going great. Once again, than you Dr.
Sahakian so much for helping us become a family. May you continue to
help other couples succeed in having children when all else seem lost.
God blesses you and your staff!
Sincerely,
Michael & Sheila
