When my wife and I found
out
we were infertile, we couldn't believe it. How could this be? Us? We
went through the traditional steps of a thousand different tests and
found that we both had a hand in the infertility problem.
We
were initially very excited when our insurance company said that they DO
cover 50% of infertility costs. We knew this to be a very rare thing in
the world of HMO's so we jumped at the opportunity. A year and a half
of infuriating paperwork and red tape both with the doctors and the
insurance company led us to throw in the towel on what seemed like such a
fortuitous thing. We were into this over two years now and we were
getting pretty frazzled.
What to do next? Who next to go to?
As chance would have it, my father in law is a surgeon who was in San
Diego for a conference. He bumped into Dr. Sahakian doing another
conference in the hall next door. They talked about our case and my
father in law was very impressed. My father in law is rarely impressed
by other medical professions. So we setup a meeting.
We met
with Dr. Sahakian a few weeks later. He looked at the specifics in our
case and gave us a pretty rosy picture. Our first attempt failed and we
were, like all others before us, pretty crushed. However, after some
IVIG treatment and the second try, we were pregnant with twins. Less
than six months after meeting Sahakian, we were finally pregnant!
The pregnancy went very smoothly and just a week ago, we gave birth to
two perfect, not rose colored parent, but really perfect baby girls!
We cannot sing enough praise for the thoroughly professional set up
they have at Pacific Fertility Center. Everyone was so supportive and
positive. If there ever is a relatively painless way to go through the
infertility process, my wife and I did it, and it will change our lives
forever.
