Recurrent miscarriage is an emotionally difficult problem for patients and a treatment challenge for the physician caring for these individuals. Less than 50 % of patients with recurrent miscarriages will have a defined cause for this problem after appropriate medical evaluation.
The traditional definition of recurrent miscarriages has been applied to couples who have had 3 or more spontaneous pregnancy losses. Given the emotional stress of this condition, it is justified to proceed with evaluation and therapy in couples with 2 clinically recognized miscarriages.
